It should be noted that the function of the Secretariat of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development is carried out by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Ali Ahmadov, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development, who opened the event with an introductory speech, informed about the importance of the establishment of the Council for Azerbaijan. It was noted that the new global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets, were approved for the years 2016-2030 at the Sustainable Development Summit held on September 25-27, 2015, by the member states of the United Nations Organization of Azerbaijan. connected. The National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 6, 2016 in order to coordinate the implementation of the duties of state bodies related to the obligations arising from the SDG. The main tasks of the Council are to determine national priorities and indicators in accordance with global goals and targets, to ensure the reconciliation of state programs and strategies covering the socio-economic fields in the country with the Sustainable Development Goals. During the past period, 4 working groups were created and other measures were taken in the fields of Secretariat of the National Coordinating Council, economic development and decent employment, social and environmental issues, monitoring and evaluation. Ali Ahmadov noted that the work done by Azerbaijan for the realization of SDG was highly appreciated by the UN and the organization is interested in cooperation with our country in this field. It was reported that within the framework of the program, reports will be prepared for the implementation of the SDGs by 2030 and will be submitted to the UN. Azerbaijan will submit the first report to the UN in 2017, and work is currently being done in this direction.

Deputy Minister of Economy Sevinj Hasanova emphasized that Azerbaijan joins many initiatives and programs of the UN, including Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals. Noting that our country attaches great importance to the SDG and the realization of the goals reflected in this initiative, Sevinj Hasanova emphasized that compared to other countries that joined the SDG, the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development was established in Azerbaijan first, and it was highly appreciated by the UN. Sevinj Hasanova said that a preliminary project has already been prepared to determine the national priorities and indicators in accordance with the global goals and objectives of the SDGs, and to harmonize the state programs and strategies covering the socio-economic fields in the country with the Sustainable Development Goals. However, the work on the document continues, and the working groups created within the National Coordinating Council in this area have a lot of work to do.

Then, the head of the Secretariat of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development, Huseyn Huseynov, discussed the work done in the field of adapting the Sustainable Development Goals to national priorities and the preparation of Azerbaijan's report for the High-Level Political Forum to be held at the UN Headquarters in 2017, the Chairman of the State Statistics Committee, Tahir Budagov, presented statistical indicators within the framework of the SDG. The work carried out in the field of adaptation to the requirements of the UN, and the deputy chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women and Children's Problems, Sadagat Kahramanova, informed about family and women's and gender issues at the SDC.
